September 29, 2023Medicare Special Enrollment for Formerly Incarcerated Individuals (Incarceration (SEP) – Effective January 1, 2023, individuals leaving custody have an opportunity to enroll in Medicare without late enrollment penalties. Under the Incarceration SEP, individuals leaving custody have a 12-month period in which to enroll or re-enroll in Medicare and can do so without being subject to a late enrollment penalty. The Senior Citizen Law Project provides legal representation, advice, and referrals to Nassau County seniors in matters involving housing, health care, and social security.
