Advocates working with older adults should be aware of two important enrollment periods with a March 31 deadline

1. The Medicare General Enrollment Period (GEP) runs from January 1-March 31. Individuals who wish to enroll in Medicare Part A and/or Part B must enroll during this enrollment period unless they are in their initial enrollment period or enrolled under a Special Enrollment Period. –
2. The Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period (MA-OEP) runs from January 1-March 31. During this enrollment period, individuals can drop their Medicare Advantage and choose Original Medicare or switch to another Medicare Advantage Plan.
