Did you know the federal government does not need to take you to court to garnish your wages if you defaulted on paying your federal student loans? They can do so administratively. If you are at risk of having your wages garnished for defaulting on your student loans, you will receive a notice 30 days before the garnishment begins. There is information in the notice about the amount being garnished, how to request a hearing, and possible defenses you may raise to stop the garnishment.
For more information on how to stop wage garnishments due to a student loan default, please visit EDCAP’s website.
