March 5, 2021It is with great sadness that we announce that Nassau Suffolk Law Service Executive Director Emeritus and retired judge of the Nassau County District Court Hon. Leonard S. Clark passed away on Friday, February 26, 2021.
Judge Clark was the Executive Director of Nassau County Law Services and then Nassau Suffolk Law Services from the late 1960s until 1989. Judge Clark graduated from Brooklyn Law School and was admitted to the Bar in 1957. Prior to joining Law Services, Judge Clark was active in the civil rights movement and the NAACP. In 1989, Judge Clark was elected to the Nassau County District Court, where he served until his retirement in 1998.
Judge Clark led NSLS through difficult times in the 1980s and was executive director during the formation of the Pro Bono Project. Judge Clark was known for his gentleness and calm demeanor as the head of Law Services and on the bench.
