Veterans’ Rights Project and Social Work Unit Work Together to Secure Benefits for Veteran’s Child
March 23, 2021Celebrating Social Work Month and Women’s History Month
March 23, 2021A staff attorney in our disability and health-related units recently worked with the social work unit to help a client reconnect with his child in the midst of his divorce. The Social Work unit worked with the client to identify his goals regarding his relationship with his child. The social worker then provided the necessary support, guidance, and referrals for services so that our client is now well on his way to achieving those goals.
A key piece of this outcome was a settlement agreement our staff attorney negotiated with the client’s ex-spouse that addresses custody and visitation. The social work unit provided appropriate referrals for the client and maintained contact with him to encourage participation in the legal process. As a result, a young child will have a relationship with a father whom she loves, and family stability will be achieved. The social work unit has continued to work with this client to further ensure stability for his young child as well as his own well-being.
